Rétaud is situated just 12 kilometres/10 minutes from junction 35 of the A10, SW of the historic Roman town of Saintes, which boasts a Roman Amphitheatre,
the Roman Arc de Germanicus, Cathédrale St Pierre, Eglise St Eutrope, daily market (apart from Monday – “Grand Foire on the 1st Monday of each month), pedestrianised shopping area with cafes and restaurants, and the lovely River Charente for boat trips in summer.
The nearest coast is at the historic village of Talmont, 20 minutes SW, and the beautiful beaches of Royan and the adjoining towns of St Georges-de-Didonne and St Palais are just over 30 minutes drive.
La Rochelle, with it’s beautiful restaurant lined harbour, fine aquarium and shopping is
55 minutes away, Cognac is 40 minutes drive, and Bordeaux can be reached in less than 90 minutes by Autoroute and “Park and Ride” Tram from the city
outskirts, or by train direct from Saintes station.
There are many tourist attractions in the area, from steam trains to water parks, nature reserves and the superb zoo at La Palmyre.
