Rétaud is a peaceful village situated just 12 kms from the Roman town of Saintes and 10 minutes from junction 35 of the A10 in Charente Maritime, one of the four departments in Poitou Charentes, which is described by "Lonely Planet" as one of the 10 most beautiful regions in the world to visit in 2012 - click on this link to see more ; http://www.lonelyplanet.com/europe/travel-tips-and-articles/76854

(You can also find us on the Google Map on the "Availability & Pricing" page). Being the second sunniest region of France to the Riviera, with 300 days of sunshine each year, the 'microclimate' here allows for the heated pool to be used most years from late April to early October.

 The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside, which in summer is a patchwork of golden wheat fields, lush vineyards, towering maize and "the star of the show", spectacular vast fields of sunflowers.

The gîte, which is a bungalow adjoining the owner’s house within 1 ½ acres of private garden and orchard, sleeps 6 adults - 2 x doubles, 1 x twin room, plus additional items for one baby, (full sized cot, high chair etc), and is fully equipped for all your holiday needs. 

Inside is a fitted kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave oven etc., bathroom with separate bath and shower cubicle, separate toilet and in the living room an entertainments system incorporating satellite UK TV and radio stations, CD/DVD player and i-pod connectivity through a hi-fi. Free unlimited wi-fi connectivity is also available.

Outside is a heated 8.1 x 4.6 metres swimming pool with a wooden decked terrace (shared with the owners) in your own private garden of about ½ acre, with a further sun terrace, barbecue and plenty of space to enjoy games with children.

Close proximity to the village centre means you are just minutes walk away from a boulangerie, épicerie/presse/tabac, boucherie/charcuterie, agence de poste, and the historic 12th century church of St Trojan. There is also a "mini-marché" in the village each Wednesday morning selling fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood. For 2012, a small bar will open within new premises for the épicerie/presse/tabac.

Cycles are available free at the gîte to enjoy the quiet lanes of the surrounding area. There is also a range a games at your disposal - outdoors a full size table tennis table,(+ bats and balls), badminton net (+rackets & shuttlecocks), pool volley-ball, cricket bat, ball & stumps, football etc. and inside, scrabble, cards, chess, games, books, dvd's etc.

In the village there is a first class all-weather tennis court (correct shoes are necessary if you wish to hire it) and a boules court - boules are available at the gîte for your use.
